MILOW - Boy Made Out of Stars
"Let's live out our futures all rolled into one / The truth is the brightest might be yet to come" - One by One

Belgian-born singer-songwriter Jonathan Vandenbroeck, known as Milow, was working on the final details of the 170-page zine that accompanies his latest studio album, Boy Made Out of Stars, when the Los Angeles wildfires broke out and approached his home in Venice, where he has lived part time since moving there in 2012.

"These fires were a heartbreaking reminder of how fragile the things we love are," Milow writes, reflecting on how many of the locations that inspired the album - and where several of the 15 music videos were shot - were damaged or destroyed. "I am deeply moved by the resilience of this city and its people. L.A., with its breathtaking nature and electrifying energy, continues to inspire me."

Just as his album Nice to Meet You (2022) was a response to the Covid pandemic, Boy Made Out of Stars is, according to Milow, "a love letter to L.A. - to its beauty and the strength that drives us forward". The album marks a new chapter in his musical journey. The title evokes childlike wonder, with stars representing creativity and hope. "It touches on psychedelic exploration and cosmic transformation," Milow explains. "It's about modern masculinity, questioning traditional notions, embracing vulnerability and celebrating a fluid, evolving identity."

The opening track "One by One", recorded in the legendary Village Studios in Los Angeles with producer Jamie Hartman and accompanied by a video from Malibu near the tree on the album cover, captures the dynamic spirit of his adopted home. He lives there with his long-term partner and their two children. "Working on Boy Made Out of Stars was a journey of self-discovery. I took time to breathe, be with my family and soak up the ordinary and extraordinary moments of life. I wanted to return with something honest, raw and alive."

The project is more than just a collection of songs: "It's a reflection of where I am right now - how the last few years have shaped me." As part of the album release, Milow developed an extensive zine, which he describes as a "time capsule" - with handwritten lyrics, studio photos and behind-the-scenes insights into all 15 music videos.

Song highlights: "Family Tree" is probably the most personal song on the album and is about Milow's father Ivo, also a musician. With the help of AI, his voice was extracted and transformed into a duet - an emotional bridge between generations.

With Boy Made Out of Stars, Milow once again shows his artistic development.
He celebrated his breakthrough with an acoustic version of "Ayo Technology", which became a hit across Europe.
