Beethoven's Sonata Op. 96, his final work for violin and piano, belongs to his late period. It unfolds from the ethereal atmosphere of the opening movement through an intimate slow movement and a lively scherzo, concluding with variations on a well-known folk melody of the time. The beloved "Spring Sonata" complements the programme with its radiant and lyrical character, creating a musical journey inspired by birdsong, springtime and the return of light.

Claudia Hostettler
Claudia Hostettler studied piano at the Music Academy Basel and the Lucerne School of Music. She performs as both a soloist and chamber musician and lives in the Jura region and Basel. She has collaborated regularly with Giles Francis for many years.

Giles Francis
Giles Francis studied violin at the University of Cambridge and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. After eight years with the Dante Quartet, he now performs with the Dutch Ballet Orchestra, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra.
