The cable car, with a reversible movement, is an installation of great importance for the history of technology as it was the first fully automatic reversible cable car in Switzerland. The installation is based on a system developed by the engineer Karl Peter from Garmisch-Partenkirchen and was built with an ideal layout from the point of view of cableway technology with only one pylon; it is the only installation of its kind in Switzerland. Largely preserved in its original state, this Ticino cable car not only impresses with the technical rarity of the installation, but also with the construction of the stations, typical of the time and of excellent architectural quality.
The cable car is still the fastest means of transport for visiting the Monte San Giorgio region, which was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003. 

Usual information
It operates daily, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., runs every 45 minutes.
July and August: Fridays and Saturdays evening opening until 21.30
