In the context of the exhibition “Hallyu! The Korean Wave”


In collaboration with the Chair in East Asian Art History, University of Zurich.


The two-day conference with international guests sheds light on the various “Korean waves” and places them in a global, historical and cultural context.

Day 1 (Friday, 16th of May)
Venue: Museum Rietberg,  Park-Villa RieterLecture Hall, Seestrasse 110, 8002 Zürich

2 – 2.10 pm: Opening address by Dr. Annette Bhagwati, Director of Museum Rietberg and Prof. Dr. Michael Schaepman, President of the University of Zurich

 – 2.15 pm: Welcome address by His Excellency Keum Chang-rok, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Swiss Confederation

2.15 – 2.20 pm: 
Introduction by the Conference organizers, Prof. Dr. Ewa Machotka, Chair for East Asian Art History, University of Zurich, and Dr. Khanh Trinh, Curator for Japanese and Korean Art, Museum Rietberg

2.20 – 3.20 pm: 
Keynote Address, Prof. Dr. J.P. Park, University of Oxford
Conflicted Realities: The Politics of Desire and Identity in Korean Art and History

3.20 – 3.50 pm: Exhibition Introduction, Dr. Rosalie Kim, Victoria and Albert Museum, London
