The film The Nettle Dress tells the remarkable story of textile artist Allan Brown, who spent seven years crafting a dress from hand-picked stinging nettles. The film impressively shows how the challenge of creating sustainable clothing from local resources led Brown to relearn old craft techniques. The transformation of the stinging nettles into fabric symbolically reflects Brown’s own journey from grief to renewal.

Even before the film screening, for once everything revolves around the stinging nettle: At an elegant stinging nettle-themed aperitif organised by Eveline Gurtner Haussener you can browse the nettle market run by Brigitte Schmidli with handmade textiles from a women’s co-operative in eastern Nepal, or at the book stall run by Mechtilde Frintrup and Nadja Hillgruber with specialist literature.
