Would you like to learn the traditional Japanese art of restoration known as kintsugi? Repair a favorite broken piece or purchase an antique Japanese ceramic vessel from our inventory.
Kintsugi (金継ぎ) is the Japanese art of restoring broken ceramics using urushi lacquer and gold or silver powder. In this process, cracks and breaks are deliberately highlighted—rather than hidden—thus emphasizing the beauty of the imperfect and the transient. In keeping with the Wabi-Sabi philosophy, Kintsugi seeks beauty in imperfection.
The course is led by Felicitas Sohm. The goldsmith and gemologist lived with her family in Tokyo for four years, where she learned the Kintsugi technique. Today she runs her own
studio in Bern.
Duration of the event3:30–6:00 p.m.
The workshop takes place as part of the
ceramics market.
