What a year! In 2026, the royals once again lived up to their reputation and dominated the headlines. From the spectacular trial in Oslo involving the son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, to the much-celebrated family outings of William and Kate with their children to Australia and the United States, and the many reasons to celebrate in Sweden, there was no shortage of royal news.
Now that King Carl Gustaf has turned 80, will he step down in favor of his daughter, Crown Princess Victoria, and enjoy a royal retirement with his wife Silvia, to whom he has been married for 50 years this summer?
